Why Do Lash Extensions Turn White?

If you've ever noticed that lash extensions or lash glue turn white or foggy, you're not alone. This issue can happen to both beginners and experienced lash artists, and it's usually due to how the adhesive reacts during or after application.

1. Shock Curing (Blooming Effect)

The most common reason for white or foggy lashes is a reaction called "shock curing". This happens when lash glue cures too quickly due to:

• High humidity in the room
• Using a nano mister too soon after lash application
• Water or moisture coming in contact with the glue too early

When this happens, the adhesive surface turns white instead of staying clear or black.

2. Wrong Adhesive for the Room Conditions

Lash glues are sensitive to temperature and humidity. If you're using a fast-drying adhesive in a high-humidity room, it can cause the glue to cure improperly and turn white.

3. Residue from Primers or Cleansers

If the natural lashes are not dried completely after cleansing, or if there's leftover residue from primer or saline, it can react with the adhesive. This causes a chalky, white look at the base of the lash extension.

4. Low-Quality or Expired Products

Expired lash glue or poor-quality lash extensions can also cause discoloration. Always store your glue in an airtight container and replace it every 4–6 weeks once opened.

5. Improper Aftercare by the Client

After application, clients using products with oil, alcohol, or harsh cleansers can weaken the bond and cause whitening. Educate your clients to use oil-free, lash-safe products.

How to Prevent It

• Use the right adhesive for your room’s humidity and temperature.
• Wait 2–3 minutes before using a nano mister.
• Dry lashes completely after cleansing or priming.
• Store your glue in a cool, dry, airtight place.
• Educate clients on proper lash care and product use.
